Annual Giving Programme

The Annual Giving Programme is a key source of financial support for the entire University - both Colleges and departments.

Through the Annual Giving Programme friends and alumni can make gifts of any amount to their area of choice.

Some donors may be concerned that their gifts are too modest to make a significant difference.  Please know this is not the case.  The cumulative value of multiple gifts can have a profound impact at the University in areas such as student support, teaching resources, student opportunities in music, drama, sport and travel.

The Annual Giving Programme’s priorities are:

Supporting our Students

To enable gifted students to study at Durham, irrespective of their financial circumstances.

Excellence in Research

To sustain academic excellence at Durham, provide secure funding for existing and new fellowships, and foster world-class research.

Enhancing our Environment

To preserve Durham’s historic college and University buildings, and renew the infrastructure of the University as a whole. This includes everything from the most up-to-date laboratories to lecture theatres and sports facilities.


Please note that gifts to many of the above categories can be made to the University generally, or specifically to a college or department.
