Largest Ever Gift Received From an Alumnus
New developmentsThe Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) is excited to announce that Collingwood College has received a gift of £4,000,000 (£5,000,000 with Gift Aid) to establish a new 200-seater Arts Centre, a gym extension, a yoga/Pilates studio, an enlarged JCR, and a Bar conservatory. This transformational gift has been generously donated by Collingwood alumnus, Mark Hillery (1985-88). This is a truly outstanding example of philanthropy from a very loyal and fully engaged alumnus.

Durham climbs to 4th in Good University Guide
Congregation Summer 2016Durham University is ranked 4th in the UK according to The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017, an improvement of one place from the previous year’s ranking in this guide. This is Durham’s highest ever position in this league table and reaffirms its standing as one of the UK’s top universities.

Durham rises in world rankings
QSThe number of Durham University subjects in the top 50 of the prestigious QS World University Subject Rankings has more than doubled from three to seven.

Geography at Durham is ranked third in the world and Archaeology fifth, with Anthropology, Earth Sciences, English, History and Law also in the top 50.

Lumiere 2015 - The World Machine
The World MachineResearch by Durham University into the origins, evolution and understanding of the Universe is lighting up one of the world’s most iconic buildings.

Stunning images of the cosmos will be projected on to Durham Cathedral, on the City’s World Heritage Site, as part of Lumiere, the UK’s largest light festival.
