About Alumni Relations

FAQ

What is Dunelm?
Dunelm is the name of the University's alumni community. It comes from Dunelmensis, the Latin word for 'of or from Durham' and is the name of your degree. Every Durham alum is automatically a member, but if you sign up with your contact details, it means we can tailor what we send you to your interests - so inviting you to events that are taking place near where you live for example.

What about my College?
All the colleges have their own alumni relations sites and social media groups, and some of them have their own independent alumni associations. When you join Dunelm, your information will be shared with your college so you don't have to enter your details twice. The independent alumni associations are different in that they may collect data separately and they may have a data sharing agreement with the University. To find out the situation at your College, click the Colleges tab above.

Will I be asked to donate?
Durham University is a charity and fundraises to support scholarships, cutting-edge research and the infrastructure a global university needs, and we do fundraise from alumni. However, we recognise that not all of our alumni will want to give back to their University and we try to approach this sensitively. If you do receive a telephone call it should only be once a year, and we will only write or email occasionally to let you know about the opportunities to support the University philanthropically. We subscribe to the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Code of Ethics.
