Bruno is responsible for ensuring that Durham University provides a first-class service to alumni, friends and partners, in pursuit of Durham’s aim to become a World Top 50 University by 2020. He is of the opinion that Durham is already a great University which has produced global leaders across a wide range of professions and endeavours, and he is pleased to call himself a member of the Durham family. It is with the support and guidance of Durham alumni and partners, he believes, that Durham will continue to expand and grow, and he will strive to engage with as many of them as is possible, in the pursuit of Durham’s goals.

   

Jane Taylor - Personal Assistant to the Director

Jane is responsible for supporting the Director. She joined the team in February 2013 and previously worked at the University's Estates and Buildings department for a number of years. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, hill walking and rock climbing as well as riding her motorbike.

Tim represents the University at alumni events and is responsible for coordinating much of the alumni relations programme. He is an alumnus of the College of St Hild and St Bede and a former sabbatical officer (2003-04) for the Durham University Charities Kommittee (DUCK). He has a background in fundraising, project management and international development.

Carolyn Moralee, Alumni Relations Assistant

Carolyn is the first point of contact for Durham alumni so please do get in touch with her if you have any queries. She also works with volunteers who organise events worldwide on behalf of the alumni community and produces Newswire, the monthly email bulletin to which all alumni can subscribe. She has been with the Alumni Relations team for a decade so has a wealth of knowledge about many different areas of alumni activity.


Annual Giving Team


 
Linda Morrison, Annual Giving Manager

Linda is in charge of looking after everyone who gives regularly to Durham or who is intending to leave a legacy to the University in their will. If you have received a fundraising letter or a telephone call from one of our student fundraisers, it will have been organised by Linda’s department so please direct any queries you have to her or a member of her team.  Her background is in management training in Europe and the Far East, and she has gained a wide knowledge of the University in the Governance Support Office and as the Treasurer’s Support Officer.

Jeremy Pidgeon, Annual Giving Officer

Jeremy works on the annual giving campaigns such as the Chancellor’s Appeal and also helps run the telephone campaign, a responsibility that sees him working closely with our student callers. A Durham anthropology graduate, Jeremy has been active in many areas of the life of the University. He  was Welfare Office in Collingwood College JCR and has represented the University at lacrosse.

Louise McLaren, Legacies Officer

Louise is the point of contact for alumni and other supporters who wish to make a gift to Durham in their will. Louise works with all areas of the University, including colleges, departments, sports and the arts, so please contact her regardless of which area of the University your gift will benefit. She is also pleased to hear from those who would like to inform the University that they have already included a gift in their will. Louise graduated in Hispanic Studies from Glasgow University and has a background in institutional, trust and major-donor fundraising and project management for international development and conservation charities.


Harry Harrison, Development Officer

Harry's role is to work with the University's existing supporters to encourage greater involvement with the University.  He visits alumni throughout the UK, encouraging them to remain engaged with the institution and exploring a range of financial and non-financial opportunities. A former RAF Officer, Harry is a keen marathon runner and cyclist, and his remaining time is spent completing a wide range of DIY improvements to his Victorian terrace house in Sunderland.

 
Lynne Reynolds, Annual Giving Assistant

Lynne works to provide administrative support to the Annual Giving Team, in particular, working alongside Jeremy and Linda to ensure the smooth running of the telephone campaign and making sure that alumni queries received through the campaign are appropriately dealt with. Lynne previously worked at Durham Business School before joining the Development Office eight years ago.  Away from the office she is raising two children whilst also studying, part-time, for a degree in English Literature.

 
Major Gifts Team

 
Susan Jones, Head of Major Gifts

Susan is responsible for managing and supporting the Major Gifts Team. She is an alumna of the University, holding an MBA form the Business School.  Her background is in the commercial sector where she was responsible for start-up business in the venture capital arena as well as in the clinical research and pharmaceutical sectors. Susan comes to the University from a fundraising post where she drove innovation, branding and major gifts initiatives.

                                  
Jason Coleman, Development Executive (Durham Business School)

Responsible for managing Durham University Business School’s global fundraising programme, Jason meets alumni and other supporters who are interested in helping the Business School achieve its advancement goals. These include the significant redevelopment of the main Business School site in Durham (reopening in summer 2013), creating non-capital funding opportunities such as academic chairs and scholarships, and creating introductions to networks of contacts, who in turn may be willing to offer their assistance. Having graduated from Salford University with a BSc (Hons) in Finance and Accounting in 2002, Jason had a successful sales and marketing career, working with widely respected brands across different industries. Jason enjoys spending time with his family, rennovating his home and watching football.

Andy Harston, Development Executive (Centre for Catholic Studies)

Andy is the lead development executive on the University’s Centre for Catholic Studies and Ushaw College projects, working with a number of influential stakeholders across philanthropic and religious communities around the world. He is responsible also for on-going development within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and, specifically, the Department of Theology and Religion. Andy holds a BA Marketing, a full Certificate in Financial Planning (CFP) from the Chartered Insurance Institute and has continuing postgraduate experience in Creative Writing. His career began in banking and investments with RBS and Lloyds Banking Groups before joining the University in 2010. He is a proud husband and loving father of two daughters.

Elizabeth Alpass, Development Officer (Arts & Humanities and Libraries)

Elizabeth’s work focuses on fundraising and donor relations for the University’s Libraries and Heritage Collections, including Palace Green and Ushaw College libraries. She also supports development in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Elizabeth is a Durham alumna with an MA in Translation Studies and a BA in Modern Languages. She is fluent in French and Italian and speaks good Spanish.

 
Dr Claire Molloy, Development Executive

Claire works with alumni, other individuals and organisations that have a desire to help the University to deliver the very best range of opportunities it can to both its student and research communities.  She works closely with existing donors ensuring that their gift to the University is used in a way that meets the donors wishes while delivering the very greatest impact that it can. She also helps those who might be considering making a new or repeat gift to the University, matching their philanthropic interests with an opportunity at Durham which would welcome their support. As the team's generalist, Claire works with all colleges, departments and research institutes, their donors, supporters and alumni.  If you would like to find out more about making a gift to Durham please contact Claire for an informal chat or meeting. Away from work Claire thrives on exploring abroad as often as she can, with a particular enthusiasm for festivals and cultural events which are typical of their country.

 
   

Anna Abbott, Trusts and Foundation Officer

Anna Abbott has joined the major gifts team to develop and expand DARO’s programme of fundraising from trusts and foundations.  Her professional background is in television production, strategic communications and policy analysis, focussing mainly on science, health and sustainable development.  She holds an MA (Oxon) Biological Sciences and prior to joining Durham University worked for leading UK and international media companies, central government and the NGO sector.

 

 

Lesley Murray, PA/Administrative Assistant to the Major Gifts team

Lesley is the point of contact for the Major Gifts team, so please contact her if you have any queries regarding major gifts or about trusts and foundations. She also provides administrative support to the team and directly assists Susan Jones, the Head of Major Gifts. Lesley is a sales and events management professional and a transplant from California.

Linda Forwood, Operations Manager

Linda has overall responsibility for all the technical, organisational and administrative services that underpin fundraising and alumni relations. Her background is in finance and administration. A passed finalist with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, she is also a graduate of Durham University Business School, where she gained an MA in Enterprise Management. Employed in education for almost 20 years, Linda moved to the Development Office from one of the University's academic departments.

Elaine Young, Stewardship Officer

Elaine looks after all the University’s donors. She is responsible for ensuring that all gifts are spent according to their expressed wishes, for developing and implementing personalised stewardship plans for major donors and for ensuring all donations, whatever level, are recognised appropriately. Elaine worked as PA to the Director of Development for three years and has extensive experience of the University across a number of departments.

Diane Crossley, Operations Assistant

Diane updates the alumni database. She has a wide knowledge of accounts and administration, having spent many years in the construction industry and the motor trade.  She is currently studying A-level History, having got a Distinction in Psychology and English Language.

 

Terry Ottaway, Operations Assistant

Along with his colleague Diane Crossley, Terry is responsible for gift processing, on-line registrations, donations, data updates and weekly gift reports. Terry’s background is in finance, having worked for the treasurer’s departments at Durham and Newcastle Councils.

Geoff is responsible for overseeing the provision of research support for DARO and the wider University in order to improve the potential for fundraising success. Geoff has a charity and corporate-research background, and relocated to the North East in 2009 having previously spent five years as Fundraising Events Manager at Help the Hospices.

Karen Batey, Research Officer

Karen works with the Senior Research Officer in providing research support for all development services across the University. She is responsible for identifying and presenting information on key individual and institutional prospects as well as ensuring that the information we have on such prospects is as up to date as possible.  Karen has worked for the University for over 30 years and been a member of the alumni office since its creation in 1989. She therefore combines detailed database knowledge with a great experience of the University and its work.

 
Communications

David oversees all communications to the University's alumni and donors, a role that includes editing the alumni magazine Durham First and working on appeals sent out as part of the Durham University Annual Fund. If you have any comments about any communication you receive from the University, please do get in touch with him through the contact details above. David is an alumnus of University College and a former freelance journalist. He has written extensively for The Guardian on graduate employability and covered the FIFA World Cup for The Times. He is also the author of three books.

Deborah Wood, Colleges Liaison Officer

Deborah’s role is to support alumni relations and development activity in the University’s sixteen colleges and in Experience Durham (which looks after sport, music and the arts, as wells as  staff and student volunteering). She has an extensive background in fundraising and project management, having previously worked at one of the UK’s leading cancer charities, and she has an MA (Hons) in American Studies from the University of Dundee.
