1832 Society

Durham University was established in 1832 on foundations laid by the 2nd Earl Grey, Bishop Van Mildert, Archdeacon Thorp, and Canon Smith.  Today, Durham is a World Top 100 University known for excellence across its faculties and for collegiate experience.  Colleges are integral to the University’s ethos, and honoured members of colleges regularly gather in fellowship at high table.  The concept of ‘high table’ is appropriate for recognising Durham University’s major donors in ‘The 1832 Society’ and their gifts enable Durham to build upon the cornerstones laid by our founders.
