What we do with your information and Data Protection in summary. The only people who can see data on this system are staff in the University, alumni and supporters of the University, and agents of the University doing work commissioned by the University (eg a mailing house.) Data Protection in detail. Your data is securely held on a server in the University of Durham which has in place all the security measures you would expect. Data you enter into the Durham Alumni OnLine system will be treated confidentially and with respect and will be used by the University, its alumni and supporters. The data is available to appropriate University staff, including but not limited to staff of the Development and Alumni Relations Office, the Colleges and Departments, the International Office, and to agents contracted by the University for purposes directly related to the interests of the University and / or its alumni. The data will not be disclosed to external organisations other than those acting as agent for the University. If you choose to make your data visible to other alumni by clicking the relevant check boxes on registration or by changing your options under "my details" (only available once registered and logged in) then you are deemed to have consented that this data may be additionally disclosed by the University to other users of the Durham Alumni Online system, including disclosure to countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). This precise geographic definition is required because any information displayed on the Internet is regarded as having potential for disclosure outside the EEA, and the Data Protection Act 1998 requires that you explicity consent to such a disclosure. The service is be offered free to alumni, former staff, graduating students and friends of the University, solely at the Development and Alumni Relations Office’s discretion and may be terminated at any time, although there is no intention to withdraw the service. The Development and Alumni Relations Office and the University can not be held responsible for any loss or damage due to the failure or termination of the service, although we will make reasonable efforts to let you know in advance of foreseeable service interruptions. 2. Any e-mail name may be requested by the alumnus/a. Unless the name has already been taken, this will normally follow the form:
3. Confirmation of registration will be sent by the Development and Alumni Relations Office to the e-mail address to be forwarded to by the service. 4. The service may be used for personal purposes only. It is not intended as a business service (eg a helpdesk or ordering e-mail address) and the Development and Alumni Relations Office reserves the right to terminate the service if substantial business use is evident. 5. While the Development and Alumni Relations Office and the University will not make any attempt to gain access to the content of e-mails, their complete security can not be guaranteed since e-mail is not a secure transmission medium. 6. The use of a dunelm.org.uk address does imply any approval of or recommendation by the University of Durham in respect of a user of the service, or of the content of any e-mail or any other use of the service which the user may make, and may not be represented as such. Any user who attempts to imply that the address represents such an approval or recommendation is likely to have her / his account terminated. 7. Use of "dunelm" addresses as the origin or reply-to address in unsolicited junk e-mail (spam) is forbidden. 8.
