We think there a number of reasons why you will find this site useful, and hope you decide to register.

We currently offer the following services:

  • Create your own profile on this Web server. This can be set to let your friends find you and get in touch via e-mail. We will soon have the facility to add photos too!
  • You can include notes about you on your profile and read others written by other people
  • Create a permanent e-mail address which will forward your mail wherever you want.

  • Search for your friends who have also registered and get back in touch.
  • Subscribe to our monthly e-mail newsletter called Newswire. Each month we send a short e-mail full of links and news about Durham.
  • Chat on Bulletin Boards for each college, department, for countries and other specific interests.
  • Upload and browse photos of Durham: share your memories of Durham with others
  • Advertise goods, services and wants to other Alumni
  • Send a virtual postcard with a view of Durham. As well as the existing series of photos we will happily add more; if you want one of your shots to appear here, please register and e-mail the link provided in the postcard section. We will consider your photo for inclusion.

Why would you want a Permanent E-Mail address?

Every time you change your Internet Provider you end up with a new e-mail address, so you have to tell your friends that your e-mail has changed. With this service you just tell them your dunelm.org.uk address, and when you change Internet Provider you tell us. Or if you are planning to go travelling and want your mail to go to a hotmail or yahoo account for a month or so this service will take care of that too. We have been running the service for about three years, but with this new web site you can change the forwarding address as often as you need to, when you want.
The way it works is this:
  • You create the username of your choice
  • You automatically get an e-mail address which is username@dunelm.org.uk
  • You tell us your actual e-mail address eg someone@somewhere.co.uk
  • Tell your friends to e-mail you at username@dunelm.org.uk
  • When they use that address we will forward it to someone@somewhere.co.uk
  • If you do need to change the forwarding address simply come to this site, and change the forwarding address.
  • Your friends carry on e-mailing you at username@dunelm.org.uk, unaware of any change.
