Information for Students

ConnHEXions allows you to connect with Trevs alumni who have expressed an interest in offering a helping hand to students looking to start their careers in a certain sector: you might want to ask them for general advice, or pose more specific questions. You are free to search through alumni profiles to identify individual(s) that you would like to ask for advice, based on their subject of study, career path, interests, etc. If the alumna/alumnus accepts your request to connect, you are then free to enter a discussion, with messages being directly emailed to each party via the ConnHEXions platform (email addresses are not shared). Once the student has received all the information they require, the relationship can be ended by accessing the 'My Contacts' page.

How it Works:
Step 1: Sign up for a Dunelm account here.
Step 2: Use the search tool to find a contact who might be able to help you.
Step 3: View the contact's profile, and if you'd like to, send them a message to start a relationship.
Step 4: You'll recieve an email when your contact responds to your message.
Step 5: When you've found out all you need to know, go to My Contacts to close your relationship.

What should I say?

Feel free to be as general or as specific with your questions as you like. Explain that you think they might be able to offer you some useful information, and that you would like to pick their brains.

What if they don't respond?

Ensure that you treat the ConnHEXions with respect and courtesy - bear in mind that our ConnHEXions are busy, so you probably won't get instant responses. Don't be too demanding, and remember that you are representing Trevelyan College to its alumni. Our ConnHEXions might like to chat about Trevs and Durham as well as their careers, so don't be selfish. Please contact Thomas Barber at trevs.trust@durham.ac.uk if any of the ConnHEXions don't respond to you within 2 working weeks, or if any problems develop with your relationships with your ConnHEXion.

Is there a limit on how many relationships I can have?

Relationships are limited to 5 at any one time. Once you have made contact with 5 alumni you will not be able to contact anyone else until you have closed one of the relationships. You can view your contacts here.

Is it okay to ask for work experience?

This platform has been created so that you can get advice from alumni. You should not use it to ask for work experience or employment.
