Charlotte Kerr, Alumni Relations Officer
Direct telephone: +44 (0)191 334 6304

I’m Charlotte and I’ve been working at the University for 10 years now, but it feels like it has always been a part of my life as my mam (mother) worked here before me. One of my earliest childhood memories is walking the corridors of Old Shire Hall and playing on the type writers in her office!

I love how small Durham is as a city, it’s nice and compact and if you need to power walk from one side to another you can just about make it in half an hour (if little out of breath and flustered on arrival). The city is beautiful mixture of old and new and it’s only a short walk to some beautiful scenic walks along the river banks or to various wooded areas. Outside of the city you can drive to the beach, the moors, the Dales and a whole range of other beautiful places within half an hour – I much prefer to be out in the countryside than a bustling city!

What I love most about my job is meeting our fascinating alumni who share my love for Durham. Whether they are telling me about the weird and wonderful things they have done or places they have been since graduation, and how they have found other alumni along the way, or they are telling me stories from their time at Durham, I am never bored.

Outside of work I enjoy the great outdoors, going to the cinema, binge-watching box sets at home, and going to various fitness classes.

I am the Alumni Relations Officer for Durham. This involves working with some of our volunteers, finding opportunities for alumni to engage with the university, helping alumni create networks, coordinating benefits for alumni and organising events. The events side of my work takes up the majority of my time, and this has included high profile receptions with the Chancellor or Vice-Chancellor, professional networking events for alumni in specific industries, and very informal, social events. I have been very fortunate to have been in this role when Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart Corbridge arrived at Durham in September 2015. During this time he has hosted introductory events in USA, Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Dubai which I was lucky enough to attend.

Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any ideas for an alumni event, can offer a unique and interesting venue, can offer a discount or benefit to other alumni, or have any other ideas about how alumni can engage and connect with each other.
