Stephenson College June 2019 Newswire

Hi Stevo Alumni!

In the midst of an intense exam season, Stevo has continued to host a range of events to ease the stress.

As the hub of college life, the JCR never stops. Sporting events have been in full flow with regular screenings of matches in the JCR as well as inter-collegiate matches for tennis, netball, cricket, football, and several ultimate Frisbee matches, whilst several students have been playing for leisure on the MUGA. Best-selling and lesser known books have been discussed over coffee and cake at book club, including Adam Kay’s recent provocative book This is Going to Hurt. These books are available on loan from the JCR for personal enjoyment which can then be shared over a chat. For those looking for a creative outlet, craft club has explored the art of fluid acrylic paint pouring amongst other activities. The Johnny English screening was also accompanied by pizza, popcorn and snacks as part of ‘Stress Less’ week, a brilliant initiative to help all students cope with the pressure of exams in a variety of ways. Choc ices, face masks and revision packs were offered on day one as the perfect cure to exam woes, and if that wasn’t enough, the weekly ‘Calm to the core’ sessions ran as an alternative remedy.

Alongside all this, there was the Summer Nights themed Locomotion Dinner; where delicious food was served, including burgers and other perfect bites for warm and hazy summer evenings. The series of pub quizzes that has been run throughout the year continued over the last month with prizes such as bar tokens up for grabs.

College life stops for nothing – especially not exams. Executive meetings have been ongoing with the JCR members involved and informed via the JCR meeting. With whispers of what promises to be an excellent Summer Ball, Stevo Day and packed Refreshers Week in the air, we can look forward to more events as this hectic time draws to a close.
