Geography Department Alumni Talks

Each academic year, the Geography Department welcome members of our alumni community back to the Department to take part in talks to help our current cohort of students with their career choices and to enlighten them of the different career paths down which their diverse degree allows them to travel.

In the academic year 2019-20 the Department were delighted to welcome nine of our alumni back to the department to talk about how their geography degree from Durham University has helped them in their careers and the different and varied routes their careers had taken them.

The wide-ranging careers of our graduates was on display this year with a wide variety of occupations represented.

In October 2019 we welcomed back Laurie Stevens, Daisy Stones and Elena Wilson who talked about their careers in GIS mapping, environmental regulation and the Civil Service. In November 2019 our guests were Becky Dell, Rob Dessington and Toby Smart who talked about polar research, engineering & project management and running a marketing department. Finally in February, Emma Askew, Kiri Heal and Helena Nathan-King talked to students about their work in video production, environmental consultancy and climate change.

The talks are invaluable to our students who are able to ask questions and make a contact in a specific industry and our alumni are always keen to stay in touch with students who are interested in following similar careers.

The Geography Department are always looking for alumni to take part in talks such as these and other activities within the Department. If you would like to take part or just to get in touch to find out more and reconnect with the Geography Department then please get in touch via our website or email.
