Lioness Sculpture Arrives at Hatfield

The Lioness Sculpture arrived at Hatfield College on Thursday 19 September and we are thrilled to welcome her to our historic grounds. Part of our Celebration of Thirty Years of Women in Hatfield and Madeleine Strom, a second year Philosophy student, said the statue was commissioned to be a “visual symbol of Hatfield’s inclusivity”. Emma Stothard, a sculptor from East Yorkshire, has designed and created the lioness and said: “I’d like the lioness to become a positive and inspiring symbol for students, both male and female”. The statue was funded by the SCR, JCR, MCR, alumni, the Hatfield Association, Hatfield Trust and friends of the college.
An event will be held to officially unveil the sculpture on 22 October. We hope you will join us in celebrating this new symbol of positive inclusivity to Hatfield.
