St John's Alumni Accommodation Bursary

St John’s College is pleased to be offering an accommodation bursary of £200 for alumni and undergraduate finalists progressing to postgraduate study. This bursary is available for the academic year 2022/23, towards the cost of catered accommodation at St John’s College.

At St John’s we have around 160 postgraduate students in total. Around 30 postgrads of all ages and academic disciplines live in College and enjoy the many facilities, interdisciplinary events and community life.

In addition to this accommodation bursary, the Durham University Alumni Fee Scholarship might also be of interest. 

Eligibility

At the time of taking up the bursary, the following eligibility criteria will apply:

• Applicants must have already been a member of St John’s and now be classed as ‘alumni’, or be a current finalist completing their studies.
• Must have an offer to study at postgraduate level at Durham University for the year 2022/23.
• In their application to Durham University, must have completed the college application for ‘College Membership with Accommodation’ for St John’s College for the year 2022/23.
• The bursary is open to all applicants of John's Hall and Cranmer Hall, regardless of nationality or fee status.

• Email johns.secretary@durham.ac.uk to express your interest. You can do this before applying for postgraduate study and then keep us updated about the progress of your application.

Terms and conditions

• The bursary of £200 will be offset against St John’s accommodation fee charges. 
• There is a maximum of 10 bursaries available; i.e. accommodation at St John’s will be guaranteed for a maximum of 10 alumni or undergraduates progressing to postgraduate study.
• The awardee must submit an article (ca 500 words) about their experience as a returning postgraduate student. An award holder who does not wish their photo/name to be used on the website/blog/College Record should inform the College at the point of the award being made.
