A TALENTED Seaton man has become one of the youngest deputy head teachers in the UK.

Jordan Gale, 25, has been appointed to the role at Fairfield Primary School, in Cockermouth.

He joined the 398-pupil school as an NQT four years ago after completing his teaching degree at Durham University.

"After graduating with First Class Honours, I decided to join Fairfield as the school reflected my personal teaching ethos," said Mr Gale, who went on to win a Golden Apple Award for Best Educational Newcomer.

"For as long as I can recall, my ambition in life was to become a leader in education.

"After a successful and award-winning career so far, I am so proud to continue my educational journey in such a wonderful and innovative school."

The former pupil at Seaton Infants and Juniors went on to study at Stainburn Secondary and then Workington Sixth Form Centre.

While he's looking forward to his new role, Mr Gale is delighted to still be doing a bit of teaching.

He has spent the past three years teaching Year 6 pupils.

"I'm thrilled with my new job, it's wonderful.

"I will be working closely with the head teacher, Chris Steele, to ensure that the school achieves its strategic aims and vision and that we continuously strive for excellence in teaching and learning," said Mr Gale.

"A large part of my role is in supporting pupils, parents and staff.

"I am the designated safeguarding lead, teacher for looked-after children and I have responsibility for both Pupil Premium and pastoral care.

"I'd wanted to keep some of the teaching element so am delighted that I will be teaching in Key Stage 2 for one and a half days a week.

"Despite the current challenges, I have thoroughly embraced my new role and am looking forward to applying my enthusiasm and skillset in order to work alongside a fantastic team and continue to drive the school forwards," said Mr Gale.

The school opened this week.

"It's so wonderful to see all the beaming smiles and the children so excited about being back," said Mr Gale.

"There have obviously been changes in our routines but everyone is taking it in their stride and doing really well."
