Donate to Durham Student Theatre

Durham has one of the largest student theatre scenes in the country with over 900 roles for actors, 26 unique theatre companies and hundreds of members. The Assembly Rooms Theatre is home of Durham Student Theatre; a historic 220 seat theatre in the heart of Durham, right in between the cathedral and the Castle. With 32 student shows a year along with a number of touring professional shows, the venue is a hub of activity and creativity all year round.

The University is planning to invest £2.4 million in an extensive refurbishment which is set to start this August. The plans will include refurbishing the Box Office area and toilets, renewing the theatre stage, improving workshop and dressing room facilities and restoring the theatre’s historic ceiling.

In addition to this, we are hoping to raise a further £300,000 from supportive donors, partners and alumni to make additional changes to the building to create a modern, professional theatre. These include the creation of a licensed bar and café area, renewing the current lighting rig and improving the auditorium for the audience.

We would like to invite you to be a part of this exciting development project and celebrate student theatre at Durham. We welcome any donation, sponsored by yourself or by a company, from £500 (to name a seat in the auditorium) to £60,000 (to name the new bar and café).

You can donate using the form below or if you’d prefer, please contact the Director of Development, Bruno van Dyk, at bruno.van-dyk@durham.ac.uk
