The Significance of Your Gifts

Thank You

Durham University is incredibly grateful for the gifts that it receives from its alumni and other supporters.

Since 1 August 2010 the University has receipted single gifts and pledges to the value of almost £25.706m from almost nine thousand donors. In addition to this incredible total, the University has also claimed, or will be able to claim as pledge instalments are received, another £1.987m in Gift Aid.

Over the last ten years, the generosity of our donors has supported a range of projects such as the establishment of new buildings and academic programmes of study, the re-development of Palace Green Library (part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site), the establishment of new or improved research laboratories, student scholarships, and helping to build a fund to enable every student the opportunity to access the many experiences and opportunities that being a Durham student provides. For this we are sincerely grateful.

One of the features of our annual fundraising activity is the annual Chancellor's Appeal which has, since 2008, attracted more than six thousand donors and a fundraising total of more than £5.3m. We have also claimed, or will be able to claim, a further £235k in Gift Aid.  If you were one of the supporters for the Scholarships for Afghan Women or Palace Green Library appeals and want to know more about how your gift has been used, you can visit one of the individual pages from the links below to see how much the Appeal raised and how your gift made an impact. Whatever the value of your gift was, be assured that it has made a difference to the University, and its students.

As well as financial support, we want to also recognise those amongst our alumni who support the University by giving their time to organise events, or use their experience and knowledge to help a new generation of Durham students as they prepare to enter the world of work through one of the college mentor networks.

Should you wish to get in touch with us about any of the appeals at Durham that you have supported, or if you would like more information about making a donation, please visit our Donations webpage or contact the Development and Alumni Relations Office on 0191 334 6298 or email
