Durham Inspired: Live in Lockdown
The Greatest Scientist You've Never Heard Of

Thursday 6 August 2020, 6pm (BST)

We find ourselves in strange times with disruption and disorder around us. Looking back at the past is one way of trying to make sense of our current world. Again and again we find that deeply human desire to understand the workings of nature, and to make sense of the world around us.

How the universe came to be from a single point of light; how multiverses might exist; how colour and the rainbow work – sounds like modern science? But no, we’re looking at the work of a medieval thinker, and sometime bishop of Lincoln, Robert Grosseteste.

Professor Giles Gasper, Principal Investigator, shares with us an introduction to Grosseteste and to the major international collaboration around Grosseteste’s writings that is The Ordered Universe Project
