Join us for an intimate Q&A with our beloved Chancellor and opera star, Sir Thomas Allen. He is widely admired in the opera world for his voice, the versatility of his repertoire, and his acting. Because of this, many regard him as one of the best lyric baritones of the late 20th century.
We know him more as that man who shakes hands at graduations, who is generous with his time and supportive of the whole Durham community.
Since becoming Chancellor, Sir Tom has delivered singing masterclasses at the University, coached our students with their opera productions, and performed with us regularly – in Durham Cathedral with our orchestras, and in the Gala Theatre with our Big Band where he dabbled with Cole Porter and Sinatra classics.
He goes above and beyond the role of Chancellor and really inspires the student body, and we are thrilled he will be sharing some of his magic online with us at this event – open for students, alumni and friends of Durham.
In this hour-long session, come prepared with questions (or, better yet, send them through in advance to contact@musicdurham.org) to learn more about Sir Tom and what he has learnt throughout his incredible career.
