What are your fondest memories of Durham?
Happy evenings at mega-formals at Collingwood: the excitement of getting all dressed up for the event, and then the fun and shenanigans which went on well into the night. (Less fond of the memory of hangovers the next day…) An incredible Christmas Ball at Lumley Castle. Brilliant and inspiring lectures. And the wonderful atmosphere of that historic city we were fortunate enough to call home!

What kind of people make up the Durham alumni community in your area? Are they expatriates or locals?
There were/are very few Durham grads in Boston itself, but in the East Coast of the US there are quite a few – mostly expats. Having recently moved back to Scotland, I have yet to connect with any Durham alums in the Glasgow area – looking forward to doing so!

What inspired you to sign up as an alumni volunteer?
I had a wonderful time at Durham (including staying on another year to do a PGCE), and I want to repay that by doing what I can to support the University. Connecting with my fellow alums, and helping them to remember just how great Durham is, seems like a good way to do that! Plus then I get the pleasure of making new connections with fascinating Durham grads. 

What are your fondest memories of Durham?
Durham is a beautiful city. It was great to be able to walk everywhere - past historic buildings, along the river – and it was so easy to meet up with friends in cute coffee shops or at the pub. Being part of a College community was also something very special. 

What inspired you to sign up as an alumni volunteer?
In my job I organise events for Cambridge alumni, so I thought it was about time I used those skills to volunteer for Durham!

What do you love most about your current location?
There are so many things going on in Cambridge – if you know the right places to look for information, you can go to some really great events and meet fantastic people.
