What are your fondest memories of Durham?
I grew up as a teenager in Sunderland so I know the beautiful city of Durham well. During my full-time MBA I was mostly a daily commuter from Harrogate in North Yorkshire so my memories are more about the people and the work at the business school. For me it was a transformative – great learning experience and a key stepping stone in my career. 

What kind of people make up the Durham alumni community in your area? Are they expatriates or locals?
Most of the alumni are from the US but not necessarily from LA. They’re in all walks of life – particularly technology and entertainment - and they have all been positively shaped by their Durham experience.

What inspired you to sign up as an alumni volunteer?
I’ve been in corporate life for over 40 years – 20 as a CEO – so when I moved to LA in 2013 I established a Leadership Coaching business. Part of the rationale was to ‘give something back’ and help inspire business leaders to be the best they can be. This is also my motivation to volunteer for the alumni association – we’re always better connected!
