Your Durham Inspiration

Do you remember why you first chose to study at Durham?

Durham University is a prestigious university and is internationally renowned as a leading academic institution. That is the primary reason I chose to study at Durham University.

Tell us about any sports, societies or clubs you were involved in at Durham.

During my time at Durham I was part of the Stephenson College football team, we had great success against the other colleges and was consistently challenging for the title. I was also part of the ISOC society.

What work or moment were you were most proud of at Durham?

The work I am proudest of from my time at Durham was receiving a 1st for my dissertation which I spent a considerable amount of time and effort on. The work that went in to it was rewarded when I received a 1st for my dissertation on the ‘Shadow Economy’.

What are your fondest memories from your time here?

I have many fond memories from my time at Durham University especially during my 1st year living at halls and enjoying the many social events that took place within the JCR building. The 1st year was a lot of fun and one of my fondest memories from my time at Stephenson College.

How has Durham inspired you to get to where you are today?

My time at Durham was invaluable and helped shape me to be the motivated individual I am today. The lessons I learnt inside and outside the classrooms I will forever hold.

You

What have you been up to since you left Durham?

Since graduating from Durham University I have held several positions working within Sales, Finance & Marketing departments. I have started a couple of ecommerce businesses since I graduated which I will continue to pursue whilst currently working as a Senior Amazon Account Manager.

What are you doing that is most meaningful to you now?

Starting a business has always been a dream of mine and one I am passionate to pursue and succeed in. Currently I have just launched a new ecommerce business I am truly passionate about and find great satisfaction in doing.

Is there anything from Durham that has stayed with you and still inspires you now?

The diverse range of people I met during my time was something that will stay with me. I really enjoyed the multicultural environment present at my time in Durham and meeting people from different walks of life. Many people I met inspire me to be the best I can be.

Pass It On

What would be your top piece of advice for current students and/or recent graduates?

Pursue your passion and experiment until you find your real passion. Once you have found what you want to do for the next 30/40 years of your life, dedicate great time and effort to achieving your goals; whether that is to climb the corporate ladder, start your own business or philanthropic work.

Is there anything that you know now that you wish you’d known when graduating?

I wish I knew there isn’t just one path to success. Success means different things to different people.
