Alumna Sue Flood has a new photography book, entitled Emperor: The Perfect Penguin
 
This is just one of the stunning images captured by former BBC Blue Planet associate producer Sue Flood (Zoology, St Mary's College, 1986), who has ventured to Antarctica more than 20 times in a bid to capture the world's largest species of penguin in action.

The upcoming production of Harry, written by Caitlin McEwan (English Literature, Trevelyan College, 2014) was originally performed by Poor Michele, an alumni theatre company. Performances take place on 8-9 December in Durham.

Julia Boyd (Law, St Johns College, 2003-06) has joined Reed Smith as a partner with the Global Corporate Group in New York.

Susan Mathew (Theology, Ustinov College, 2006-10) was inspired by her time studying for a PhD at Durham University to start a pioneering project for special needs children back home in India.

Suzy Harrison née Witts (Combined Social Sciences, Grey College, 2001-04) has just had her documentary film So, Which Band is Your Boyfriend In? selected for inclusion in Doc'n Roll festival in London.

Nicholas Keegan (Chinese, St Cuthberts Society, 1986-87) had his book published in March: US Consular Representation in Britain Since 1790.

Stephen C Fletcher (Education, College of St Hild and St Bede, 1977-78) is in the final stages of editing his first book for publication,The Road to Hastings 978-1066.

Rose Staveley-Wadham's (English Literature, St Mary’s College 2010-13) debut novel, The Red Dress, has just been published.

Mark Gilbert (Politics, University College, 1980-83) is currently chair of the jury for the Cundill Prize, a literary prize for history.

Durham Infancy and Sleep Centre
 
In conjunction with its move from Queens Campus to Durham City, the Parent Infant Sleep Lab has been renamed the Durham Infancy and Sleep Centre (DISC). DISC can now be found on the edge of the racecourse in Hilton Cottage, just off Old Elvet/Green Lane. Earlier this year the Infancy & Sleep team were awarded the Queen’s Anniversary prize for their research and engagement work. The move to the new facility will help consolidate its reputation as a world-leading centre for infant and sleep research.
