Durham University Charity Fashion Show (DUCFS)

DUCFS is the largest student-led charitable event in the UK and 2019 saw the raising of £150,000 for the Environmental Justice Foundation (the majority of which, in line with our ethical vision for the future of fashion, is contributing to EJF’s work surrounding sustainable cotton production). In 2019 alone, 2,850 people attended the show itself, and a strong online following across a variety of social media platforms gives us a collective reach of over 100,000 people. We have previously featured in publications such as Tatler as well as showcasing brands who have gone on to be featured in Vogue, GQ and i-d.

This year we are taking a wholly new approach to charity affiliation and have partnered with two charities - Fashion Revolution and Stop the Traffik. By building and launching a bespoke campaign with these two internationally acclaimed charities, DUCFS hopes to raise funds to shed light on industrial exploitation and human rights injustices across global supply chains. This felt like a natural continuation to our 2019 vision and cause which aimed to draw attention to fast-fashion malpractice and the immense environmental impact of garment manufacture. We are currently working to shed light on the more human side to that same fast-fashion phenomena, to encourage individuals to question who made their clothes and in what working conditions.

Our approach this year to charity has enabled us to intertwine cause and creative vision, placing them at the heart of our operations. DUCFS serves not just as a fashion show but an ongoing movement that catalyses societal change and brings about a long-lasting impact. Through the connection of individuals, charities and corporate sponsors we can achieve this spectacle of creativity.
For those interested to know more about how they can support the 2020 Show to tackle integral human rights abuses and worker exploitation in industries worldwide, please get in touch by emailing sponsorship@ducfs.co.uk or visit our charity pages for more information.
