Ustinov College Update - February 2020

In Epiphany Term, Ustinov College hosted two major events within the College calendar – the International Dress Party and the Annual Art Exhibition.

On 2 March, the second ‘Encounter’ Art Exhibition opened at Sheraton Park, with contributions from student artists, professional artists and local schoolchildren. In total, works from over 20 artists featured in the Exhibition, which explored the encounter between climate change, nature and society. Contributions included audio-visual works, paintings, drawings and installations, as well as research posters from postgraduate students from the Department of Geography. Further information about the Exhibition can be found here.

On 10 March, the International Dress Party took place in the Fonteyn Ballroom, Dunelm House. Performances included aikido demonstrations, music and dance from the Mexican Society, Bulgarian poetry, a traditional dance from the Chinese Society, and other musical pieces.

The above events form part of the Global Citizenship Programme, which continues to go from strength-to-strength. Events and activities from the Café Politique, Café des Arts and Café Scientifique have taken place in locations across Durham city and we have an exciting programme of further events organised for Easter term. In particular, we are looking forward to hosting the Ustinov Annual Conference in July and further details will be circulated to alumni in due course.

In addition to the above, we would like to highlight an opportunity for UK-based alumni in the early summer. In May, Ustinov College will be hosting an event in London for our alumni – further communications outlining details of this event will be circulated in due course.
