In July, Ustinov College hosted a number of major annual events, including the Ustinov Annual Conference and the Ustinov GCR BBQ!
In early July, we hosted a Graduates Reception for Summer Congregation in the World Heritage Site Visitor Centre on Palace Green. The venue, located close to Durham Cathedral, provided a great setting to celebrate the achievements of our most recent alumni with families, friends and supporters. We look forward to hosting similar events in January 2020 for our Winter Congregations.
On 6 July, the Ustinov Annual Conference – Under the microscope: immigration, global citizenship and the refugee crisis – featured presentations from academics, postgraduate researchers, and non-governmental organisations. In addition to these presentations, attendees participated in an interactive workshop, following a documentary screening. We look forward to outputs from the conference being published in our new scholarly journal, which we hope to launch in early 2020.
We had a very enjoyable Ustinov GCR BBQ on 20 July, which this year was hosted at Van Mildert College. Attendees enjoyed listening to local and GCR bands, visiting the petting zoo (including goats, geese and guinea pigs), trying out the inflatables, face-painting and other entertainment, and, of course, eating several hundred burgers!
