Durham University Business School Ambassadors

As Durham University Business School alumni, you are the most treasured ambassadors for the School. Having encountered the Durham experience first-hand, who better to help DUBS promote and advance its profile on a global platform?

Becoming a Durham University Business School Ambassador

There are many ways in which alumni and friends of DUBS can play a vital role as DUBS Ambassadors. You can:

  • Support a current DUBS student through their year of study by joining our mentor scheme
  • Attend Business School, student and alumni events or even return as a guest speaker
  • Assist with student recruitment and represent DUBS at recruitment events and share advice with potential Durham applicants
  • Contribute to DUBS communications, including the DUBS Alumni News.
  • Offer careers support Hosting an MBA student who will act as a consultant for a Business Project within your company
  • Help expand the DUBS network by being involved in one, or more, of our 30 International Chapters worldwide

Mentor Scheme

At DUBS we run a virtual mentoring scheme whereby members of the alumni and business community volunteer as a mentor to support a current student through their year(s) of study. This is an invaluable way for alumni to impart their experience and knowledge and for students to expand their networks.

For more information, please visit the mentor scheme section on the website or email business.alumni@durham.ac.uk.

Events

We plan a series of speaker, networking, social and charity events and ask our alumni to help make these a success. As well as attending these events, to support DUBS, we require alumni to host events and help the school source venues around the world.

We also invite alumni to speak to current students on a range of topical business issues as well as sharing stories of their own Durham experience. Talks may draw on academic or career experience to illustrate current thinking in a specific business area or may provide an insight into forging careers in a particular area of expertise.

To view all latest events from DUBS, visit the events calendar. If you have space to provide a venue for a future event, have a suggestion on a speaker or would be interested at speaking at one yourself, then please email the Alumni Relations Team

Student Recruitment

As part of Durham University Business School’s annual recruitment drive, faculty and staff attend numerous recruitment fairs worldwide and welcome alumni support.  As a Durham graduate, you can provide an invaluable insight into life as a student, and feedback from applicants indicates that this personal touch is very important in their decision-making process.

Potential applicants are often keen to talk with someone who has already completed their programme, and can tell them about their own experience; about student life in Durham, or about studying at a distance.  If you are willing to act as a contact in such cases all you need to do is tick the box on your personal profile giving permission for your email address to be made available to enquirers.

A calendar of forthcoming recruitment fairs is available online. If you are able to volunteer for an event in your area we would love to hear from you. Please email business.alumni@durham.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0)191 334 5277 for further information.

PR opportunities for the school, both nationally and internationally are also welcomed.

Careers Support

Careers support is a fundamental aspect of our students development. Whether you can provide job opportunities, work shadowing days, source internships or business projects (see below), sponsor a student, or arrange mock interviews, we would be grateful of your valued support.

As part of our international MBA programme, Durham University Business School offer full-time MBA students the opportunity to work in partnership with companies on a real business issue. The business project enables the students to apply in practice the knowledge and skills they have learnt during their MBA programme and also adds value to companies by providing objective recommendations to address a specific issue.  Find out more about Business Projects.
