Mentoring Workshop with Bob Garvey

As part of the Durham University Business School Mentor Scheme the Alumni Relations Team commissioned mentoring expert Bob Garvey to host a mentoring workshop. Bob is Professor of Business Education at York St John Business School and is one of Europe’s leading academic practitioners of mentoring and coaching. He has extensive business experience across many sectors including large and small business, the public and voluntary sectors and has developed many training films. He has also contributed to international webinars and developed interactive training materials.

This intensive workshop was underpinned by the most up-to-date research and it provided the opportunity for mentees to learn how to get the most from their mentor and to understand the concepts and practices of mentoring in order to develop as a skilled mentee. The workshop was run in the ‘mentoring way’ and participants were encouraged to share their experiences and understanding of mentoring in an enterprise context.

The recordings of the workshop below covers the below topics:

  • What is mentoring?
  • Characteristics of mentors and mentees
  • A framework for learning
  • Ground rules
  • The three stage process
  • Top tips for mentees
