Head of Department Professor Mike Bentley and Professor Alex Densmore hosted an evening of wine, canapés and networking with the headline event a superb lecture by Professor Alex Densmore entitled ‘When the Shaking Stops: Earthquake Hazard, Recovery and Preparedness in Nepal’, which gave an overview the research being done my his team to help organisations in Nepal to prepare for the next disaster in several different ways: by understanding how landslide hazard evolves over time, by building scientific knowledge into reconstruction efforts, and through innovative ways of using earthquake scenarios to anticipate the possible impacts of the next major earthquake.

Attendees had an opportunity to catch up with old friends, speak to existing research students about their current projects and reminisce by looking at old graduation and department photographs.They were also made aware of the different ways they could get involved in the department such as though mentoring and taking part in employment talks to undergraduate students in the department.

It was wonderful to see so many people in attendance and we look forward to meeting more of our alumni at future events.
