Online Course Brings Scottish Soldiers Project to the World

Durham University has launched an online archaeology course to give people around the world the chance to study one of its most captivating research projects, relating to the fate of the prisoners from the Battle of Dunbar in 1650.
The course will be open until 21 July 2019.

Evening networking event for alumni, friends, and supporters with a broad interest in the energy sector. Special guest speaker Paul Marsden, Senior Vice President at Bechtel Oil, Gas, & Chemicals (Engineering, Hatfield College, 1996-2000) will be joining us to share the story of his journey from Durham and globe-spanning career in the energy sector.

What We Aren’t Supposed to Talk About

A week in June dedicated to confronting a spectrum of topics, spanning both physical and mental health issues that are considered ‘taboo’.

Study UK Winner Video

Study UK Alumni Awards Professional Achievement winner, Noha Aboueldahab (Law, Ustinov College, 2013- 16) is a transitional justice specialist, author and a visiting fellow at the Brookings Doha Center, Qatar, conducting research on human rights, politics and international law in the Middle East and North Africa.

Queen's Award for Enterprise

Congratulations to our alumni and their companies who are to be given the Queen's Award: Carl Hunter (Arts Combined, Hatfield College, 1981-84) and Coltraco. A Pint of Science

Abda Mahmood (Applied Psychology, Stephenson College, 2008-11) will be presenting her PhD research into brain injuries at Pint of Science in London on Wednesday 22 May.

Shining a Light on Cancer Treatment

Josh Hughes is working with a local biosciences company to advance technology that could be used to treat cancer, wounds and infections.

Class Notes

Flakefleet Primary School headteacher Dave McPartlin (Education, St Chad's College, 1997-2000) won a Golden Buzzer with his school on Britain's Got Talent.

Peter Preston (Physics, St Cuthbert's Society, 1964-68), who took an MA at UEA in creative writing then worked as managing editor of the literary publishers, Weidenfeld and Nicolson has three published novels and is now working on a fourth.

A new stained glass window, The Illumination Window, has been installed in Durham Cathedral in memory of Sara Pilkington, Collingwood finalist who sadly passed away in 2012.

The reunion held in London in mid-April was a great success. More information and some pictures can be found here. We’ll shortly be sending a more detailed news bulletin to all our alumni, watch out for that.

Hatfield College

The Hatfield Association After-Hours gathering is coming up soon! Held on Thursday 23 May, 6-11pm at The Samuel Pepys, London, the evening will feature a welcome drink and buffet along with an opportunity to meet College Master Professor Ann MacLarnon.

St Aidan's College

Last month Aidan’s Alumni Association hosted an informal post-work drinks catch-up for all Aidan’s Alumni in London. Over 30 alumni came along for the event at Champagne Charlies, ranging from some very recent graduates to some that remember the College when it was all-female.
