How does it work?

Step 1 - Activate your alumni profile

In order to activate your alumni profile, you will need a Dunelm account.  If you have a Dunelm account, you can activate your Mildert Link profile here.  If you do not already have an existing Dunelm account, you can create one here - please note that it may take up to two working days to verify and process your request.  Please also ensure that you have read the Terms and Conditions.

Step 2 - Receive a contact request
Current students at Van Mildert College are able to search for alumni within The Mildert Link database who might be able to offer voices of experience.  You may then be contacted by our students using the online system.  If a student sends you a message, you will receive an email notification to the address that you have provided.

Step 3 - Respond to the contact request
Clink on the link within your notification email to respond to the student.  You will be directed to this website to reply.  Please use this system to respond to all messages.  Your response will be sent to the student through this online system.

Step 4 - Communication
Once you have shared your experiences, the communication will close.  This may be following one or multiple messages from the contact.  Your relationships can be managed through the 'My Contacts' section of these webpages.

Alumni who contribute to The Mildert Link will also receive The 1965 Club Associate Level benefits. This includes a copy of the annual alumni magazine 'The Mildertian', a Van Mildert College pin badge, and invitations to exclusive events.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who will contact me?

Mildert Connections (Careers Mentors) will be contacted by current undergraduate and postgraduate students at Van Mildert College, Durham University, via The Mildert Link, an online platform which facilitates contact between alumni and current students.

How often will I be contacted?

The frequency of contact will depend on the requirements of an individual student and your availability.  Students will contact you when they require advice or an insight into a particular career path, but will be understanding if you have other commitments which must take priority.  As a careers mentor, you will have the choice to accept contact from a student and will be able to decide whether to continue supporting the student.

What will I be asked?

The Mildert Link is designed to support students in six key areas: general career information, your career journey, CVs, recruitment processes, industry insights and business start-ups.  As a Mildert Connection, you will be able to select those areas in which you would like to assist our students.  Potential student contacts will then be able to filter mentors by their preferred areas of support.

What is expected of me as a Careers Mentor?

As a Mildert Connection, you should be willing to respond to students’ queries with relevant and useful information about your field of expertise.  You are not expected to provide work experience, CV-checking or employment opportunities.  It is clearly understood by students that you are offering your own personal opinion in confidence and as a volunteer.
