Rupert Hoogewerf joins Durham University Business School as a Professor in Practice

Durham University Business School has appointed Rupert Hoogewerf (Chinese with Japanese, St Cuthbert's Society, 1989-93) to its academic staff as part of its new Professors in Practice initiative.

Robert Buckland QC MP receives inaugural award from Durham Law School

Professor Thom Brooks, the Dean of Durham Law School, presented Robert Buckland QC MP (Law, Hatfield College, 1987-91) with our first Dean’s Award for Achievement.

Sector-leading pre-sessional programmes offer world-class welcome for international students

Over 750 international students were welcomed to Durham through the pre-sessional Programme this summer, the highest number yet to benefit from the sector-leading course.

New facilities now under construction

Work has begun on the construction of a new building which will house the expanding departments of Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science on the Upper Mountjoy site of the University campus.

Dunelm Days Thank You

British Council announces nine finalists and three winners of the national Study UK Alumni Awards in Qatar

The Professional Achievement Award was presented to Dr Noha Aboueldahab (Law, Ustinov College, 2013-16) who is a leading expert on justice, accountability and politics in the Arab region.

Royal Society Davy Medal

Leading atmospheric chemist Professor John Pyle (Physics, Grey College, 1969-72) is recognised for his “pioneering leadership in understanding the depletion of the global ozone layer... and the special vulnerability of Arctic ozone.”

Rex Jude in Plate Winning Tag Team

Rex Jude (Geography, St Mary's College, 2007-18) recently represented Great Britain at the Tag Rugby World Cup in Australia winning the plate competition.

Alumni Attend War Memorial Service

On Tuesday 4 December a new war memorial was unveiled at St Mary's Church, Portchester, Hampshire by Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

David Saddington (Geography, St Mary's College, 2011-14) appeared on BBC ideas talking about tackling climate change.

June Taylor (French, Van Mildert College, 1983-87) Keeping Your Friends Close is currently out in ebook and the paperback will be released in January.

Lisa Firth (English Literature, Collingwood College, 2000-03) has had her fifth novel, The Perfect Fit, published under the pen name Mary Jayne Baker.

Michelle Hockley (History, St Cuthbert's Society, 1996-99) has a new novel entitled: Before Spring Came Summer, inspired by true events.
