How does it work?

Information for students

Step 1 - Create an account

You can create your SUCCESS profile online here.  You will need an account to be able to search the SUCCESS Careers Network database.

Step 2 - Search the SUCCESS Careers Network database

Use the 'Search mentors' tool to find a contact who may be able to offer you a voice of experience.  You can search the database by query type, subject of study, industry or profession.  The database can be accessed here.

Step 3 - Make contact with a SUCCESS Mentor

View the profile of your SUCCESS Mentor and, if you would like to, send them a message using the online system.  Please use this system for all of your communications.

Step 4 - Communication

You will receive an email notification to your registered email address once your SUCCESS Mentor has responded to your message.  Once you have received the information that you have sought, you can close the relationship under 'My Contacts'.  You can only have a limited number of conversations operating at the same time.

• you are a representative of the College and the University to our alumni
• contacts should be treated with respect and courtesy - our SUCCESS Mentors take part voluntarily
• please allow your SUCCESS Mentor time to respond to your message - you should not expect an instant response
• if you do not receive a response within two weeks or if problems develop with a particular relationship, please email ustinov.alumni@durham.ac.uk

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SUCCESS Careers Network?

The SUCCESS Careers Network represents an important aspect of the College's commitment to ensuring that our graduates are well equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful in their chosen career path.  This new online platform has been developed to allow students to connect with alumni who can offer them voices of experience of particular careers.

How can I sign up?

To use the SUCCESS Careers Network, you will need to sign up for a Dunelm account, which can be done here.  Please note that it may take up to two working days for your account to become active.

Is there a limit to the number of conversations that I can have?

You can have five concurrent conversations with alumni.  Once you have made contact with five alumni, you will not be able to contact other alumni until ou have closed an active conversation.  You can view your contacts here.

Can I ask for work experience?

The SUCCESS Careers Network is designed to allow students to hear from alumni about their own personal experiences.  You should not seek employment of work experience through this system.

What shall I do if I experience a problem?

If you experience a problem with the system, or do not receive a response from your mentor after two weeks, please email ustinov.alumni@durham.ac.uk and we will try to help.
